Here is some WIP shots of my demo reel that was suppose to be for 2011, might just end up calling it 2012 but we shall see... Its just a peek into the concept of the stuff I'm working on, car is like 75% done, 50% if you count the interior which I have to do for the full demo reel concept but for time sake I might just do the assets and forget my uber artsy fartsy concept.

So here I am doodling at a Starbucks once again. Recently I've been watching lots of comedians which makes me laugh and feel happy, so I thought how can I do that with Art and I think that drawing to make fun of people makes it really fun. I've also gone back to my stylized Illustrator (wanna-be) in me, its really enjoyable to play with lines in minimalist, meaningful strokes that force me to feel confident or stick to a line. So these days with so much less stress, having fun while drawing is bringing me back. As well as having a new Moleskin mini-sketchbook is making it very portable and convenient.

On a side note, I recently attended the Sherdian Animation Screening 2011 for this years graduating class and I saw some AMAZING films, truly. Some worth mentioning, if they are viewable elsewhere: Trick or Treat, Sonota (sp?), Red Button Day, and (one with a robot cat done in claymation [looked like it was almost impossible that one person could've done it]), there are many more to mention but I forgot the names of the films. If you ever get a chance to watch some of them I highly recommend it. Best of luck to everyone.

Armored Concepts

Getting back into the swing of things, hooked up the Wacom and started gathering the reference for continuing my projects. Went and found some Roman stuff, but might go through art books and scan more inspiration into a library of reference.

This sketch was just a little bit of what I drew, this was just for fun but may still be used. I posted this because its not really part of my "secret" designs. Once I choose a final look for this character I will post the thumbs and initial sketches, they might help someone else out.

I always found it a waste to see such good thumbs from major companies when they create games or movies that never make it to final. A great example is Gears of War, the first art book had such awesome concepts, although they would've changed the tone of the game, hence why they got scrapped but still inspirational.

I'm still getting accustomed to the tablet again, I honestly have not used it in a while and feel pretty ashamed of that but I have been inspired by new goals and new challenges online. I plan on following the Dominance War coming up, I may not officially join up but will try to keep up depending on my upcoming future schedule.

I will also be posting up life drawings that I have started going to every Thursday, so please look forward to that =)

Skull Guy Sketch

So here is a random sketch as I was taking out my frustration from not getting my motorcycle helmet, although I did get some pretty sick Puma motorcycle boots/shoes, and gloves. I have been looking through so many motorcycle helmets and it inspired something, I have more sketches but I'd like to add some colour to them to give them more flavour and umph.

I would like to practice some more drawing of females but I just seem too obsessed with motorcycle gear at the moment, I am sure it will pass once I get my motorcycle and start riding.

So its been a while since I've posted due to work and tiredness, but I have been drawing on my sketch book and wanted to refine it on the computer. I've been very removed from pencil and paper so I have just purchased a medium size Wacom Intuos4 and has really motivated me to draw on my tablet, so look forward to seeing more of my tablet sketches.

Tesla Model S

Here is my WIP car model of the Tesle Model S, a car that will be coming out in 2012. This is the first car I have ever modeled and I have learned lots about modeling mechanically and that I should have better reference. It was difficult because I was working from non-orthographic photos but I have done what I could and will definitely be modeling another car after I have done my demo reel to keep practicing on accuracy and speed.

Just some stuff about the render, this was actually rendered in ZBrush, which I am learning for my character, and just for general purposes later on; more and more companies seem to be using ZBrush. I have actually done the inside of the headlights as well but it was just covered because I didn't make the glass clear. Thanks to Vanier for helping me with the render which I used for Seneca's Yearly Art Book.

All artists are welcome as long as you can get to Square One Mall in (the awesome city) Mississauga at the Tim Horton's inside near Bulk Barn. This sketch was actually not done from life just something i made up.

Jerry & Alex First Flash Builds

This is Jerry (on the left) and Alex (on the right), here's just an update on how designing the show is going. It's quite time consuming to design and build, having trouble building different arms to link up properly with the upper torso. I used the line tool for Jerry's jeans and then made it have different segments but it seems to do a weird white line effect on the bottom if you can see that near his shoes. The original line drawing can be seen a little bit in the back, Alex's build was a little unbalanced so I had to move it. Other than that stuff it's going well, I'm animating for another friend's project on the side right now but still gotta finish mine first. And yes Jerry's head is a little bigger on purpose...

One of my favourite out of all the older sketches I was going through, but this is probably pretty default for me to draw when I have nothing to draw and have fun with gritty armor and jagged skin. I'm thinking about painting it, could be a fun little project on the side and a good piece for the artbook 2010. Woh, it's going to be 2010...the first decade of the 2nd millenium and we havn't evolved our way of thinking very much... interesting....

Artbook Painting

I have recently been very inspired by contests, more specifically Dominance Wars. An incredible fight between online art forums to see which one has the best artists, this does not just mean North America, Korea and Russia seem to be making a great impression. The theme was Generals in a portrait style, I loved the idea and took a general from one of my stories and tried it out. I thought it would be great to try and put this into the Seneca Artbook for 2009 (which I have been painstakingly helped in), it's been a pleasure but there has been time that I will never get back. But, I digress, back to the piece, I really like the concept and it has been changing constantly. At first he was going to be yelling forward but then I wanted him more calm and collected, he is a prestigious commander of his army and I even most recently thought of him floating... (If you are wondering if he is too small, I just like having huge armor and I am not in love with the chest plate) We will see, I will get back to it tomorrow, maybe show some people and get feed back on where I should go.

TEL Caf Sketches Heads

Sitting in the TEL building Cafeteria drawing people, mostly heads, some bodies. This drawing was done over the course of probably 5 to 6 hours in 2 or 3 days. I'll be uploading another page of heads and bodies pretty soon.

Life Drawing

I've been going to Life Drawing about 4 to 5 times a week to really practice and get great. The first weeks have been tough with assignments (which was what I expected and actually wanted), I work better under pressure.

The first few weeks I wasted an amazing amount of time going downtown to get a check from work like 3 to 4 hours, and the first time I went it was closed! The agency is open from Tuesday to Thursday from 12:00pm to 5:00pm, but on a random day (which had to be the only day I could go) it was closed! As I read the scribbled note on the agency door, I was quite angered because I would have to come the next day and make time to get the check so total of 6 to 7 hours wasted in the week. Not totally wasted because I had done some sketching of very interesting people on the subway and bus, as well as some observing and imitating for acting class (which I enjoy very much).

My management skills have improved and I am thinking ahead, the experience of first year has tremendously helped out. I see how important it was to go through that year though.

Anyways here are couple life drawings I thought were alright, I WILL post better ones!
